Sabaté, Jonathan Telephone : -

  • Profile
    Research interest
Jonathan’s research interest lies in the development of analytical devices for sensing molecular events and interactions, either for diagnostic purposes or for studying biological systems.

    Background

Prior joining the Institute for Basic Science, Jonathan carried out a 2-year post-doctoral fellowship at The Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard Medical School. He worked in the Biomimetic Microsystem platform for the development of an automated bioassay device for detection and quantification of biomarkers from Organs-on-Chips. He also engaged in collaborative projects, like the early diagnosis of sepsis in patients by the development of a rapid test for detection of pathogens/toxins from blood; or the project Keep Smilin’ for Abbie in the development of a wearable device with a rapid and sensitive detection of histamine to prevent anaphylaxis in patients with allergic reactions. He also worked in the development of an antifouling surface for electrochemical biosensors in order to allow sensitive detection of biomarkers in blood, or the development of enhanced signal reporters in biosensing by combining DNA origamis, electroactive species and bioreceptors.
    During
his PhD, Jonathan worked in development of isothermal DNA amplification/detection strategies, a combination of a molecular diagnostic technique and a biosensor for detection of pathogens in decentralized point-of-care diagnostic devices. In the master studies, he combined the use of nanotechnology and flexible materials for the miniaturization and development of biosensors on non-conventional substrates in order to be used as decentralized detection platforms.
