The IBS Center for Soft and Living Matter offers a variety of research opportunities during the winter. These short-term placements as a Research Intern give a select few talented students the opportunity to gain experience in a particular laboratory in soft matter science or to learn a specific technique. They work alongside postdocs at the center and contribute to the research activities of the center.
Places for interns are awarded on a competitive basis, with the application period in advance.
Eligibility
Applicants must be enrolled at undergraduate degree programs in universities and colleges in Korea or overseas, and entering 3rd or 4th year of study.
We seek interns who are highly motivated by the excitement and potential of the cutting-edge research that is possible at IBS Center for Soft and Living Matter, who have the curiosity and academic ability needed to excel in their chosen areas of study. Successful applicants will also require proficiency in oral and written communication skills in English for advanced study in science, and the ability to interact effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
Duration
The tenure of the Research Intern placements is 8 weeks. Interns may not take extended leave during their internship, and are expected to work full time on their project. Internships may begin at Dec. 30th, 2019 and end at Feb. 21st2020. Application deadlines is designated (see below for key dates).
Benefits
- Provision of living allowance. (For UNIST Students, it can be substitute internship credit)
- Accommodation on UNIST campus while at the center.
- World-class research environments and competitive equipment
- Experience in a new science: Fast growing interdisciplinary field of soft matter
- Work on challenging projects with top scientists, in one of the most international research centers in Korea
During the summer program, interns work on scientific research, engineering and computing projects that help advance our mission (see below for project information). Interns have opportunities to explore other research fields in soft matter theme through weekly seminars and discussions with people from very different fields- from chemical engineering, computer science to pure biology or physics.
